Research findings and professional contributions have been published in numerous scientific and professional journals. As author or co-author, Dr. Škunca Herman actively participates in national and international scientific meetings and congresses. She has authored chapters in several university textbooks and professional publications, and translated sections of diagnostic and therapeutic medical manuals. In addition to scientific literature, she is also the author of an educational picture book on the importance of vision in childhood.
Collaborates on a targeted scientific research project funded by the Ministry of Science, Education and Youth of the Republic of Croatia. Actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching at the University of Zagreb School of Medicine, as well as in the training of residents in ophthalmology and optometry, and subspecialists in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus. Educational activities have expanded beyond Croatia, notably in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where she teaches both theoretical and surgical aspects of strabismus, including performing operations and training others in surgical techniques.
Previously served on the Board of Directors of the Croatian Ophthalmological and Optometric Society and is currently in her second term as Treasurer of the Section for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus within the same organization. In this capacity, she has contributed to the organization of numerous scientific courses, symposia, and national congresses, also participating as a speaker.
Dr. Jelena Škunca Herman is a member of the Croatian Medical Chamber, Croatian Medical Association, Croatian Ophthalmological and Optometric Society, European Strabismological Association, and both the Croatian and European Societies for Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
