Dr. Jan Roelof Polling is an orthoptist and postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Ophthalmology, Erasmus MC Rotterdam. His research focuses on myopia development and control, with particular emphasis on pharmacological and optical interventions, large-scale cohort studies such as Generation R, and international multi-center clinical trials (including the MAD study). He has contributed extensively to advancing evidence-based strategies for myopia management and is actively involved in translating research into public health approaches.
As President of the International Orthoptic Association, Dr. Polling plays a central role in shaping international education, research, and advocacy in orthoptics and myopia care. He has presented widely at international conferences, published in leading journals, and collaborates with global partners on initiatives to reduce the burden of myopia worldwide.
