Trine Møldrup Jakobsen, MD, PhD

Trine Møldrup Jakobsen, MD, PhD, is affiliated with the Department of Ophthalmology, University Hospital of Southern Denmark, and the Institute of Regional Health Research, University of Southern Denmark.

Trine graduated as a medical doctor from the University of Southern Denmark in 2011. In 2017, she entered the field of myopia research as the principal investigator of the PhD project Clinical Study of Near-sightedness; Treatment with Orthokeratology Lenses (CONTROL Study). During her PhD studies, Trine completed a research stay at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, which was at the time headed by Professor Pauline Cho.

 

The findings of the CONTROL study led to the implementation of myopia control in 2021 at the Department of Ophthalmology, University Hospital of Southern Denmark, where the research was conducted. From the outset, Trine has been a key member in the organization of the Myopia Clinic and in the development of referral criteria, treatment guidelines, and guidelines for discontinuation of treatment. In 2024, Trine was appointed by the Danish Paediatric Ophthalmology Group to participate in the development of a National Clinical Guideline on Myopia. The work is ongoing.

Trine is currently the principal investigator of the CONTROL2 study and a co-supervisor for the PhD project Defocus Incorporated Multiple Segment Spectacle Lenses (DIMS) versus Orthokeratology Lenses (OKL) for Slowing Myopia Progression in Danish Children Aged 6-12 Years. In 2022, she was appointed as the Danish National Lecturer for the European Society of Ophthalmology. In 2023 and 2024, she received certificates from Acta Ophthalmologica for the top downloaded article and the top cited article, respectively, for the article Control of Myopia Using Orthokeratology Lenses in Scandinavian Children Aged 6 to 12 Years: Eighteen-Month Data from the Danish Randomized Study: Clinical Study of Near-sightedness; Treatment with Orthokeratology Lenses (CONTROL Study).

Trine has published nine peer-reviewed articles in the field of myopia research, five of which as the first author and three as the last author.
Currently, Trine is completing the final year of her residency in ophthalmology.
